The following pages provide information about my current and former research projects.
I have recently been awarded an individual research grant by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) for my new project ‘Facing Europe: The personalization of European Union politics in news coverage and its consequences for democracy‘.
This project builds on my previous research on the news coverage of the European Parliament and its members; and ties in well with new collaborative research projects that study variation and effects of news visibility of national parliamentarians.
In addition, I am engaged in collaborative work on the relationship between European Union representatives and their represented by means of examining the extent and variation in opinion congruence.
I was previously involved in the former internationally collaborative research project ‘Observatory of Parliaments after Lisbon’ (OPAL), in which we studied, among other things, the strategies of national parliaments and their members to directly influence EU policy making.
